Position Summary:
The Program Engineer is the liaison between the Customer and Cooper Standard in the creation and maintenance of vehicle component designs that meet the Customer’s functional, timing and cost targets. Program Engineer is the technical representative responsible for all engineering activities associated with their program including Design Reviews, 3D math data, drawings, prototypes, DV and PV testing. Program Engineers are also responsible for attending all relevant program team meetings, supplier technical reviews, and, when
required, run at rate events at our manufacturing plants.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Knowledgeable and experienced in engineering disciplines (i.e. skills matrix), while still acquiring higher knowledge and skills
- Capability to handle a standard vehicle program that involves one region and/or product line
- Knowledgeable of internal and customer manufacturing and design processes
- Understands best practices, processes and customers
- Understands customer requirements and uses this understanding to accomplish strategic objectives
- Understanding of Cooper Standard product lines outside of your main discipline
- Responsible for releasing engineering change requests
- Administer program development reviews (gate)/ design reviews
- Develop and support the auto‐quote process
- Responsible for product validation
- Ensure designs meet all functional statement of work (SOW) requirements.
- Technical interfaces with the customer, design, manufacturing plants, testing, sales, program
- management, purchasing and suppliers
- Responsible for program design status including design timelines
- Assist in all product VE/VA reviews.
- Participate in technical trouble‐shooting for commodity
- Participate in KT, 8D, or other structured corrective action/ decision making with manufacturing divisions to assure timely and permanent problem resolution
- Participate in vehicle builds and validation
- Lead and support business unit at customer management meetings
- Mentor associate program engineers
- Responsible for releasing and maintaining program data, drawings, and other engineering documents in
- the Cooper Standard Product Life Cycle Management system
- May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering is preferred
- Typically has two plus years of experience
- Solves problems in typical situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience and
- judgment
- Impacts quality and effectiveness of own work team and the work of others on the team; works within
- guidelines and policies to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
- Ability to explain moderately complex information to others in concise manner
- Demonstrated technical aptitude in engineering disciplines
- In‐depth knowledge of the customer and internal APQP processes
- Successful evaluation and identification of customer vehicle build and validation problems
- Good written and presentation skills.
- Ability to draw and manipulate 3D data in CAD software
- Must have good technical and mechanical aptitude
- Thorough understanding of DFMEA
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Working user with drawing layouts, part detailing and GD&T
- Ability to assess and identify design alternatives
- Ability to assess risk and prioritize
- Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary
Work Environment/Work Conditions:
- Professional Office Environment
- Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
- Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
- Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
